New Mad Max Game

Postby Dragonforce » Mon Jan 25, 2010 12:20 am

I have a feeling the impending Mad Max game in secret development will be made by Bethesda (the company who brought us Fallout 3) I think they would be the most likely candidates, and I only hope it is them because they would do better than any other software house. The guy from the god of war studio would do a cock up of it, as would the other most likely candidate...Rockstar.
Presently Bethesda are working on a title codenamed "Rage", there is talk that this title is similar to the Mad Max universe, with similar locales, vehicles, etc... Could "Rage" be Fury Road?
Go Bethesda! After fallout 3 you guys are duly qualified for the Mad Max game, not only have you shown a solid grasp of the concepts, but you understand the principles of a deep background, history, storyline and most importantly details!
I hope they get the contract....anyone else would just produce a cheap knockoff instant cash in pile of ass.
God please don't let EA Games get their mitts on it! Those guys must be up for an award soon for the longest consecutive streak of the worlds most un-detailed, story lacking, linear, over in 5 mins games. EA.....STAY AWAY! God Of War expat......go do another crash bandicoot, or some other button mashing nonsensical pile of phlegm.

normaly i'd be on board with you but you see this game is unlike any other movie tie in game ever seen because of one thing. miller wrote the game. while the companies will likely try to modify some things here and there (any company would it's buesiness it's not personal.) miller is still the main brain behinde the game which means the creator is heavely involved with the game thus if it sucks it won't be for (one of) the usual reason that creator hands the game off to some moron who only just heard of the movie,t.v. show ,or long running serious and decides he wants to use his artist liscense to do it "his" way.

so despite what studio might be publishing it ,it's still well in the hands of miller and we want that. in other words the game has a shot. outside of that who knows it's not been spoken of since it's announcement. my only hope at this point is DLC in the form of road warrior or mad max vehicles and or characters much like they've done with the transformers games as of late.

did you actually play the transformers game?

movie related games have a bad habit of being bad, so don't get your hopes up, then you wont be disappointed (or if it is good, you'll be pleasantly surprised).

Dragonforce, your criticisms of EA are not entirely fair. sure their last efforts with Need For Speed series were dire, but the SIMS is still the highest selling game of all time (and it's actually good).

humungus, don't bet on george's input being that valuable. i'm pretty sure he's no gamer. The happy feet cash-in (they call it a game!) was forgettable.

I thought Maxis made the Sims and EA just marketed it? Besides that's not the best example when you consider how much EA continue to milk the Sims franchise in much the same way as their movie tie in games. Just look at all the Sims expansion packs! Rather than simply giving fans the whole deal i.e; a complete game...they simply drip feed it in the form of these "expansion" packs. $49.99 just for the priviledge of using "Ikea" branded furniture? I think not! EA are not about making quality games of good longevity, they are not in it for the gamers but for themselves. They merely see entertainment software as a cash cow and nothing more, that's why all their games look great for the first level, then quickly deteriorate in quality and features with every subsequent level. It's like they get bored with programming them! They are just rushed piles of hack, pushed onto merchandise hungry movie fans for the maximum amount of cash in the most minimum amount of time (before the fans actually realise how much they have been gipped!
EA games are the Pepsi Cola equivalent in the video games industry...heavy pop culture cash in commercialism...with loads of over promising and under delivering. At least they are consistent!

EA have got behind some notable games but sadly those are swamped in a lot of rubbish.

It would be great for a MadMax game to go to Bethesda but history has shown that movie tie-ins are pretty terrible, they usually disappoint both the gamers and the movie fans.

My gut feel is it would just to Artificial Mind and Movement (A2M).

Maxis is owned by EA (remember a few years back when they bought almost half all studios). Yes they are in it for the business, but who isn't (other than indie game makers)? If that business model of upgrade packs didn't make them money, they wouldn't do it. Valve do the same thing with their half-life episodes. Valve's episodes may be better value for money, but someone must want ikea furniture enough to spend real world dollars on it.

aussie muscle. with all due respect please read what i wrote.

george miller (an actual writer and co-writter of the mad max series.) wrote the game. so his input is the game. normaly creators never write a game but he did thus my point still stands that this has a chance.

now yes he has little to nothing to do with the appearance of the game so on that end there is much they could still get wrong but a creator of the movies on which the game is based on writing the game tie in just doesn't happen it shows millers put more thought into this then anyone ever has to a mad max game considering how "good" mad max nes was.

so yes there is a good chance it will suck but frankly it has a far better chance because millers wrote and even spoke with the ones working on the game. please don't talk to me as if i am an idiot about this i know movies and i know games quiet well.

as the rest yes transformers revenge of the fallen sucks but it's actualy better (and this is just my opinion here, cause i hated the movie.) with orginal content from the cartoons it's raped. it's the closest thing to orginal creator content as you'll ever get and since i didn't pay the orginal 60 bucks for the game i still feel my money was well spent being that i am a classic transformers fan and the closest i have ever come to it was an import game that never hit american shores for the ps2.

I hope he genuinely is involved. The publishers of the recent GhostBusters game leaked a untrue rumor that Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis had written the games comment and it was effectively the third squeal.

Just keep EA the hell away!

And just keep in mind that direct input/involvement/supervision etc... from a movie's director means diddley squat as far as the final result is concerned. The game's developers always have the final say. Once creative license is attained, they do whatever they like within a given set of parameters and guidelines set by the movie people. This however DOES NOT guarantee a good or even noteworthy game! It is folly to believe that any involvement either directly or indirectly by George Miller will gaurantee a game worthy of the franchise, and acceptable to the fans. This is evident when looking at for example the games for the Lord Of The Rings, and King Kong...both movies by Peter Jackson, and all games having his direction, not to mention the same creative genius of NZ's Weta workshop and groundbreaking digital effects wizardry (the same as was used in the movies) The sad reality is that all of those games SUCKED big time! (of note is that the Lord Of The Rings games were done by EA....surprise....surprise!)
So NO I do not accept in any shape or form that George Millers involvement to any capacity with the upcoming Fury Road game means that we can sit on our laurels and anticipate a quality game. It would be nice.....But I live in the real world, and it would be a miracle if anyone else but Bethesda Softworks could pull of something that would do it justice! As far as I am concerned Bethesda are the only development house worthy after the Elder Scrolls series ( Oblivion is simply jaw dropping!) and the newer Fallout 3 which uses the oblivion engine. There is a lot of Mad Max inspiration already in the fallout world...yes even single shoulder pads! I firmly believe that if anyone but Bethesda try to code this game it will be a huge pile of AAAAaaarrrrrsssseee!!!!! And I hope I don't live to see it defile the shelves of games stores everywhere!

Dude calm down and read the posts. Lord Humungus hasn't said anything about Millers involvement guaranteeing a good game, just that it gives it a little more hope.

Yes it would be great it Bethesda made the game, no need to rant on and on about it.
