I have kicked around the thought of building a MMI black


V-8 interceptor. But I have questions about the car and life


with such a monster....so anyone that has the answers,


please let me know.





-What is the car like to drive around? I realize that this is


not the family Civic, but general behavior.


-Can you build a on/off blower has seen in MMI and II?


- Final Cost of the car?


-How do people react to the MFP Interceptor?


-Is the interceptor relible? How much work is required


on it to keep running smooth?


-Gas mileage?


-And the best question, how does make you feel


when you turn it on?


-Does the interceptor sound like the one on MMI&II?

#1. While I've not driven a Supercharged XB Falcon, I've driven a V-8 powered car of similar dimensions (Most notably a '73 AMC Javelin & '73 Baracuda)


Both of mine were more prone to over steer than understeer, which is my preference and the accleration was good on the AMC and fair on the Plymouth.





#2. After a lot of research into the subject.. Yes and no


I've come up with a workable design for a Valve and bypass setup for an early '90s model 5.0 Injection system, but it would take a lot of custom machining and possably custom casting to manufacture the parts.


VERY Expensive. Is it really worth it?


If I were building a functional replica, I'd go truly supercharged and have the setup pumping very low boost (2-3 pounds) to allow for street driving.


#3. Final Cost of the car? A lot.





#4. How do people react to the MFP Interceptor?


Your car would get a lot of attention. Especially from the LAW..








#5. Is the interceptor relible? How much work is required


on it to keep running smooth?


There's a lot of variables to that..Milage and modifications to name a few.





#6. Gas mileage? Poor (Stock V-8 with fake Blower) to VERY BAD Supercharged super super high powered.





#7. How does make you feel when you turn it on? I'd think you'd get a real sense of pride starting that beast up.





#8. Does the interceptor sound like the one on MMI&II? The sound a vehicle makes is surprisingly individual.. I've seen two cars, with the same motors, with virtually the same modifications & the same exhaust system sound noticeably different..

Much like any other XB Falcon Coupe but with a thing sticking out of the hood. For the majority that have not driven a Falcon Coupe, much like any other muscle car. This is all individial car related. If it is set up right it should be no different (physically) to any other car to drive.[/font][/font]

Isn't it an ongoing cost? Where did final ever come into it? Not mine so I can't answer that one. $20,000 - $50,000 depending on what is done and what you can do yourself.[/font][/font]

Most are just stunned. Drop the jaw and stare type reaction. Some have a look of wonder and amazement. Some smile ear to ear. Thumbs up and horns honk often. You meet more people than you will ever have met before. They all want to talk to you.[/font][/font]

Same again. My XB gets 25mpg on the freeway becasue of the way I set it up.[/font][/font]

Un-bloody-believable! Just seeing one of these in the flesh gives you goosebumps if you have any passion about them at all. Seeing one in your rear view mirror is visually shocking, I know I have had that one happen and I knew it was there - still shocks you. I thought that a standard XB Coupe was a babe magnet but the Interceptor goes above and beyond that![/font][/font]

My question is: What is the maintainence like for a nearly 30-year-old car that was manufactured halfway around the world? I'm guessing that the engines are pretty close or identical to the 302s, 351s, etc. in American Fords, but what about parts that are not interchangeable? Are they difficult/expensive to get?

Well,its two in the AM and I just got home from taking the replica to the track and flogging it down the quarter mile with Phil's XB in the other lane.I can tell you this...the crowd went WILD to see the entire Oregon Aussie Falcon Owner's club (all two of us),racing down the track driving from the "wrong" side of the car and banging those toploaders with our left hands.LOL Man what a fun evening.The last race was the best,though,as we were side by side all the way down the track watching each others' front ends get tall whenever a gear was changed.Thanks for coming down,Phil.Bill

It has been a while since I last faced the 'tree' but it came back to me after the first run! I didn't get to bed till about 3 myself and I am only 5 mins from the track. I have decided to look into my options for a 5/6 speed. You are bad! The missus is not going to line up any more babes for you if you make me build a quarter mile monster! LOL


No photos :-( We will have to do it again at a day event.


Thanks for getting my butt into gear and getting down there.... next time I will get some of the good gas and we will see what it can do!

Having seen both Cars side by side and met their "Keepers" I can tell you that must have been a real treat! I'm sorry I missed seeing it in person. The next time you both plan a race shoot me an email so I can drive down and watch! Oh the thrill of a real road car.

Dave,


The engines are like the 351 Clevelands here. Most other parts can be had from Mustang/Torino/Cougar or the like. Aussie only parts can be had from there but if your car is in good shape you shouldn't need too much. A set of brake pads every few years maybe. I made sure my car was in top mechanical shape before it left there and I haven't spent much of anything on it in the last 7 months. Now I need a Termec and... and... and...
