I would. Or maybe you could just skim some off each paid ticket and put it in a travel fund.

Also, welcome to the new members! Kurt, I like your Flickr set. I see we visited the same eBay seller for animal skulls. (I didn't actually buy one; maybe next year.)

Thanks again Karol for your work on the event.

As I worked with my friend in his workshop in the weeks leading to the event, we really had no idea what to expect. If we'd be standing around with 20 other people in the middle of no where or if would 100's or 1000's. The hiccups on myspace page and the ticketing system going on and off really didn't help persuade some of our friends to go but honestly, I think with some better PR, the event will explode. The word of mouth alone is seemingly creating a hype out there.

I was with Kurthawk above...five of us made the trek from San Diego, but knew more San Diegans that made the trip. After the event we hyped it up so much that I'd say at least 15-20 more of our friends would make the next event.

As for when? Well, I totally see people stating that bi annual is best, especially if they have to travel far. But I too feel the hype is there and that having an event next year in 2010 could create more and more a following leading to a much bigger and better event to celebrate the eventual release of the film.

I'm also on board with a fund or maybe a slight increase in ticket cost to ensure that certain vehicles make it out to the event.

Whatever you decide, we are on board big time! We regularly attend cons of all sorts and we agreed we haven't been this hyped about an event is quite some time...

René

PS: What about a spring time event if possible? Maybe an April? May or June? NOT on a holiday? Warmer weather keeps people out and about for longer.

Rene,
It was my pleasure, and thanks for coming out and supporting the event.

As for helping pay for people to bring their vehicles, it might be better to just do personal donations from the heart. Event budgeting is not an exact science, so it's not as simple as adding another $5 a ticket to cover replica vehicle travel costs. There are so many unpredictable factors and last-minute emergencies that I would hate to guarantee vehicle owners any traveling expenses. Maybe next time we can set up a donation page so people can donate to their favorite car.

BTW, Scarlett recently posted a new blog entry on the MySpace and this is what was said about her organizing a future event:

There has been A LOT of people asking if there will be another event or not. I originally said NO. But after the amazing camaraderie I felt at the event and the flood of gratitude I felt from everyone, I am re-thinking that decision. So many of you asked if the event could perhaps be every TWO years, so you would be able to save money, prepare your vehicles and get your costumes ready. I think that's a SMASHING idea and that would allow us some time to create an even bigger and better event for all of you next time, perhaps in 2011! So keep this page in your friends list, forward it on to your friends and help get the word out so the next event can be bigger than ever!

So,Karol, were my concerns about Scarlett scamming people and pocketing the gate founded or not?

I did get a bit of heat for the constant questioning of her character, but as we have learned in the past few elections...Character DOES matter.Cheers,Bill

Hey Bill,
To the best of my knowledge, Scarlett was not in it to scam anyone or to pocket any money. I still have no reason to believe that.
When I mentioned discovering "disturbing facts," I was actually referring to finding out on September 30th after a call to the BLM that Scarlett had never submitted permit paperwork. This is the same day I learned from them that we couldn't have live bands. And we ended up changing venues because of all of the issues with El Mirage I found out about that day that made it stupid to have an event there.

I am writing an overview of my 10 months working with Scarlett so people have an idea of what the ordeal was like.

.. between said organizer's plentiful non-responses, and my previous experience(s) with all the SILLY regulations at the El Mirage OHV area, it looked like a possible jackpot. probably most of the latter, but all the same.

... I know of a handful of So.Cal. locations (non-BLM) that almost seem taylor made for this event if you decide to start planning RWWE-2

March Hare,
Soggy Dry Lake is a mile-wide dry lake bed 2 hours from Los Angeles. I don't think you can beat that. I know you've suggested a site out near the Nevada border before, but I think that's too far out and probably not accommodating to BoB's and similar vehicles. Am I right?

I am up for either every year or every 2 years.

However from a promotional standpoint, I'd recommend timing it to occur about 2 to 4 weeks prior to the release of Fury Road (2011 at this point) , and utilize whatever promotion company is involved in the movie release to do a partial backing ( These companies would jump on in a heartbeat to help promote and advertise such an event if timed close to opening of the film.) Who knows, maybe they would provide an extended trailer for display at the event like is done for ComiCon... or Props or Actors....

2012, as being the doom year by multiple prophecies, has to have this event... to maximize the buzz associated.

The event was great, regardless of the self-evident chaos... people pitched in to make it work... And it worked great...

I can only imagine the insanity involved in putting this on... but I've been involved in larg scale insanity of a similiar nature. I've seen event coordiantion destroy, as well as build relationships...

That said, I'd like to be involved from a production standpoint if it is held / sponsored again by either Karol or Scarlett. If it is not going to be done by either of them, I may have to do it... (Less of a threat to them both and more of a nudge, though I am serious, this HAS to happen again.)

In addition to some funding (Insurance bonds, etc), Props, Projectors, Electronics, Radios, Road signs, Barricades, Security Personnel, Carpenters, DJ's and a promotions team is what I'd throw onto the table… The more time to prepare, the more I can bring in.

So if either Karol or Scarlett is going to do It again, let me know as soon as you begin to assemble a team, if neither of you are... Well then... Something very similar is bound to occur somewhere in the southern California desert before the end of 2011.
