The rules for the ThunderRoad boardgame, produced by Milton Bradley in 1986, are available on the Hasbro Web site in Adobe Acrobat format. The Board Game Geek Web site features photographs of a upscaled set a player created to use Hot Wheels-scale cars and 3-D scenery. The NOVA Web site has photographs of the cardboard insert in the U.S. version of the game that features theoretical technical specifications of the four vehicles in the game.

In December 1986, I received a set of variants for ThunderRoad from a Car Wars player. If anyone is interested in the rules, contact me. I can post them here or send them via e-mail.

Bandits: Phoenix Rising was a PC game released several years ago that featured armed, Mad Max-style vehicles. It is an older game but it should please any Mad Max fan.

Dark Future was a 3-D auto-combat boardgame released by Games Workshop in the late 1980s. It featured road gangs driving Mad Max-style cars called Renegades and MFP-like law enforcement officers (Sanctioned Operatives or Sanctioned Ops) driving sports cars called Interceptors. Motorcycles were also included. Francis Greenaway of the U.K. has created fantastic Web site for Dark Future I highly recommend visiting.

Mike,
Looking at the upscale "MatchBox" size game Board makes me think that there is probably a 2 acre plot somewhere that could be used for a "Life Size" version.

It would look cool, but probably a logistical nightmare! It would still be fun as heck though!

i can't promice when this will be done at all my time is limited for art of any kind but i am looking at returnign to 3d works soon enough and unsing the san andreas or possibly the next gta's game engine i was goign to model all 4 cars using a compiation of the game peices and the box art from thunder road. it was a favorite board game of mine as a child and i always loved the idea but the board game does fall a bit flat on the visual scale.

so i been itiching to make these cars but once i did then what??? game mods my friend game mods. can you imagine running headlong into other cars with the eliminator,or out running the baddies in the dune biggie or even attacking cars not unlike the game with the chopter.
