Artemis Flow could you explain a little more about the CGI Monaro from your page? I'm not sure i understand what they did there. So it's the same as another vehicle but they changed in the shot you posted with CGI? Do you know why?

There's a mistake in your CG Monaro description. It had the front end from Surfari, not Caltrop#1 (Charger).

While I'm at it I might as well explain why they CGI'ed that car. The first time we see the (CG) Monaro it's in the armada. Two shots later it's right behind the War Rig, far ahead the armada and Nux too. That's why they changed the front end of the car in the armada to make it appear as a different vehicle. They did a really good job at that too!

BTW, I read somewhere that this Monaro was supposed to be rented from Gas Town and manned by inexperienced War Boys. The moment they tried the flamethrower on the War Rig they set themselves on fire lol

Ah i see so it was to avoid a continuity slip up. Well they certainly did a great job as without being told by you guys, i wouldn't have been able to tell any visual fx trickery was involved.

regarding them setting themselves on fire, i thought it happens when they get rammed by the war rig and their flame thrower blasts fire back onto them? Or perhaps i'm talking about the wrong vehicle?

It's that vehicle.

tehCal wrote:I assume then that the Monaro is "Firecar #1"; apt as it's definitely the first flamer featured. In fact, upon a rewatch the other night I noticed a small detail that really adds to the world-building. I posted this on Reddit this morning:
(...) For instance: the official backstory for that particular Monaro is that it's a flamer on loan to the citadel from Gastown. And the War Boys riding on it aren't as adept with the flamethrower as a crew of Gastown Boys would be.

Hence, before going into the storm, you see the car come up alongside the War Rig and try to shoot flames at the cab, but the flames end up blowing back in their faces and briefly setting them alight, causing the car to peel off and attack from the other side of the War Rig, which sets them up for being nudged into the twister."

I don't know where that 'official' part comes from though, tehCal - where was it stated?

So I emailed Brendan McCarthy yesterday, got a response late last night -- I asked if there were any plans he knew of to release the Fury Road story bible, or at least a book of the vehicles. He said that he was no longer involved with KMM and that I'd have to contact them directly about it (which is unfortunate as KMM doesn't have a website that I can find, and I don't really think I'll get anywhere by phone).

I've sent a similar email to Peter Pound, also asking if he can provide a list of the cars/nicknames for the fans on this forum. Waiting for his response.

Cameron Manewell and Andrew Rickard have been instrumental to collating the list we have so far, as has been everything Artemis Flow has put together. I just wish they were happy to dump the info to us at once -- having to find details a piece at a time is taking forever!

Yes as Taipan explains it was for continuity I believe I may have been the fist person to pick this up when I was collating pics for my page I asked Andrew Rickard about it thinking there was 2 Monaros , he filled in the gaps , bloody good GGI work ay

levcore wrote:I didn't realise the ice cream guy on the trike in the extra features who just shows up in the desert was an actor hired by the production lol. It did seem a bit random for someone to be in the middle of nowhere selling ice creams.

Someone on the forums said it was Tom Hardy but in an interview with one of the fives wives they said it was just some local guy / actor / stagehand brought in to break up the boredom

Still trying to finalise details on Rosie >
Fury Road vehicle mechanic Cameron Manwell explains:
" Rosie was actually bought for the Interceptor roll over gig. The 3rd Interceptor (gutted shell) is the car you actually see Max in when it's upside down sliding through the dust towards the camera.
That car had a huge internal skeleton with a massive pipe through the middle sticking out the back. This was then mounted to a hydraulics rig on the back of Rosie so it could be driven slowly while rotating and dropping the car to the ground to simulate the roll and slide to camera "
