I quickly read through some impressions last night and people generally seem to be loving it. The only negative to stand out for me is environmental pop-in can be very noticeable at times.

The thing with this though is it's procedurally generated meaning the game engine is randomly creating these odd rocks or bits of weed here and there on the fly as you're driving. Doesn't bother me honestly and I never noticed it until some started making a big deal out of it.

Here's the game intro. Be ware of spoilers though:

Ah, so Max had a daughter this time. Alright, more fuel for the continuity debate then.

That intro is sooo Mad Max. I love it ! The clips of the world falling down and the narration is awesome. I just don't like how Scrotus isn't dead with that chainsaw in his head.

I never heard that before, only procedural generation I ever heard of was when you drive off the map into that sort of infinite land they talked about.

continuity debate...what debate? from what the devs have said this is before fury road, but adds that this is it's own thing and isn't techniqually cannon. I mean the BoB you drive is a mix between Mad Max 2 and Fury roads versions. My point is that there is no Continuity to debate as far as where it fits in the movieverse because this doesn't belong on it's time line even if parts of the games setting as bits of cannon. but as far as placing it a gamerverse timeline there is no real reference point beyond that this is pre-fury road. just as how mad max takes places "a little while from now" the game has much ambiguity to it which is on purpose because Miller wants much of his vision to be just that. to keep some mystery.

As to the other topics brought up, I think some on here aren't giving Aveleanche enough credit here. I don't have the game and won't till monday nights midnight launch at the store I reserved mine at. but from what they've said they want you to drive out there and see what it generates. some areas will be a lot of nothing but they promise you will be rewarded for seeing how long you can stand it out there. they were qouted as saying that you can drive till your board or you die. but that there is no invisible wall,no "otherside of the map." could be hype but so far Avelanche's track record of games they've made so far give me no reason to discount their claims outright.

but again only time will tell. I'd like to think I'll like this game on many levels. then again I may not like it at all. the one sad thing is that this game will likely be outshined by metal gear which also comes out the same day. and since metal gear has perfect 10 scores from almost every gaming site out there I don't think max will be able to get out from it's shadow. the reason I bring it up is only cause I'd like this game to make max into a viable gaming property, and no I don't want a new max out every year a-la call of duty. but it would nice if it made the kind of money to make other companies want to do one because then law of averages would dictate that we could in time get a game that almost all of us wanted all our lives. I believe in this game but till I play it myself that's all I have is belief.

I guess there are videos out now from early copies and such, anyone know of one that tests driving off the map? I couldn't find any.

I completely believe what they say about infinite map but I think people might be misunderstanding it. My understanding is that there won't be much out there, probably short view distance with dust, and that the game will encourage you to turn back via storms/lightning/damage, perhaps just outright killing you if you stay too long. I did hear once that there might be some scrap out there. Quotes like this “You can continue driving into The Big Nothing until you get bored or killed.”, and the fact that they call it The Big Nothing seem to back up the notion that it is really just a little demo of their tech and not intended as a core feature of the game. Of course, there's always the chance they threw in something special for those that decide to keep driving :). Even if they did, I wouldn't expect much.

I still believe THE Mad Max game experience for hardcore fans like the people that hang out here will never come in the form of an official game from a big company. Even if this Mad Max game does well and greenlights a sequel, well as we've seen in gaming many times, success often leads to an even more generic experience to get even more sales. I keep saying and still feel like the only way we'll get that "game that almost all of us wanted all our lives" is via an unofficial indie project made by hardcore fans.

Although I'm not expecting it to be great, I'm still excited, and now it's only about a day away. I gotta admit I'm very pessimistic with games, but hey I've been let down so many times :).

No two "hardcore fans" can agree on the continuity of the movies, so of course there will never be a game that pleases everybody. That said, I consider myself a hardcore fan of 30+ years and think the game looks awesome.

Polygon.com reviewed it. Says it sucks.

Also, McWeeny says Miller expressed no interest in the game when he asked him about it.
