Complains about some dubbed lines

Postby Uncle Entity » Mon Jun 29, 2015 7:02 am

NOT MINE!

A guy from IMDB:

"How much more can they take from me? First it's my blood, now it's... my car."

Did anyone else notice that this line sounded horribly overdubbed, didn't sync up with what Hardy seemed to be mumbling on-screen as he is heard saying it, and it didn't even sound like his voice?

Loved the movie, but both times i saw it, that part bugged the hell out of me. It was like they got a random Australian extra to come in and do the over-dub and didn't even attempt to make it sound like him.

The rest of the movie Hardy's Max doesn't have much of an Australian accent, mumbles/growls his lines, and is barely intelligible.

TOTALLY WRONG.

What do you think?

I don't think that guy's wrong, although it's most likey Tom Hardy doing the overdub, but he's right, it does not sync up well.

I found that in general there are a couple of scenes where overdubs are clearly noticeable, look at Nux's mouth when you hear "He looked right at me" - it barely moves.
No complaints about Max's weird accent though. I'm gonna stick to my guns and say that both Max's grunts and his weird accent can be attributed to him being borderline feral. I mean the guy forgot the sound of his own voice, it's not to far fetched to think he's start talking with a weird accent when he opened his mouth after a while.
And also - originally Max was supposed to be like Nux's slave-dog on a leash so that only adds up to how wild and removed from humanity Max is in Fury Road.

I think it is dubbed by Hardy himself. Put up a little bit wrong voice though, but what the heck.
Isn't it more common in this sort of films the voices of the actors are added post filming? Because it is practically impossible to record a voice in action scenes like this. Mic boom cannot get in close enough in those wide shots and because of the noise. We all know those cars made such a loud noise, it was impossible to hear each other. Didn't they also wear earpieces to get directions from George Miller?
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

They should have overdubbed the entire movie with American radio announcer voices like they did in the first movie. Now THAT would be interesting. :D

IT IS OBVIOUS Tom overdubbed himself in those scenes..... I loved it.... it sounded a bit out of sync but it was cool and weird...... he was TIED TO A CAR and running at full speed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of overdubs obviously... but that Razor Cola line seemed like (un)necessary exposition - to show the audience it's actually the rebuilt interceptor.
It is shown being rebuilt in the citadel when Max jumps over it, and Max probably just originally uttered a f-word when seeing it drive again, but it was later changed into the stolen-car exposition line.

To diehard fans it's unnecessary, but for casual viewers, I guess it adds some drama knowing they rebuilt his car. Reminded me a lot about the camels in Thunderdome, although it was handled much better there.

Another one:
When Furiosa meets with Canyon Rock Bikers, after the "Yeah I got unlucky..." line when she jumps over the axle and shooting starts...
In the trailer I have on my harddrive, she obviously screams DRRRIIIIVEEEE!! to Max, while I could swear she yelled FOOOOOOOL in the theatre?!

Yeah the line in the trailer is DRIVE! and FOOL! in the movie.

No wonder they changed it, it wouldn't make much sense for her to yell "Fool!" in the trailer and then start running away.

i loved that part. i laughed so hard, because it nailed the "laughing at things that really suck left side coping mechanism" humor from road warrior and thunderdome when his stuff gets stolen from him.

Max Rockatansky - the obsessive possessive hoarder. My favorite line is "That's my jacket!" and Nux goes "Sure, but you could ask much more than a jacket!"
And to think we used to wonder whether Max returned to pick up his jacket at the end of Thunderdome... of course he did - he'd probably get PTSD from just not getting it back.

Even at the end of Fury Road... he's probably going to grab a can of black paint and head to the Razor Cola wreckage, to rebuild the interceptor and get his boot back. :)
