Mad Max; The Goose in hospital scene

Postby scfc68 » Wed May 20, 2015 8:18 am

Just wondered on this; it's quite a disturbing scene, the way the camera zooms in on Max's face as he pulls the sheet back, the way the picture zimmers and the really atonal burst of brass music. The arm is quite gruesome makeup, if a little basic.

Was there anymore actually filmed, were we ever meant to see Goose or what was left of him (Ive always thought of something like Cropsy from that slasher film The Burning) or was it just meant to be implied with Max's reaction?? It did look like there was somebody or something perhaps under the sheet?? It looked too slim to be Steve Bisley mind so I don't think he was under there, was he??

Was it actually confirmed that he died during Mad max or was he just left in a coma? Fifi says the goose "bought" it but I guess that's open to interpretation??

Given how poor some of the other props are, I'd say that, if they'd shot anything, they'd have used it.

I read somewhere, probably on this board, that it was Sheila Florance's arm with make up added that was filmed for that scene.

Yes, that is the story I have previously been told, it was Sheila Florence / May Swaisey. Someone told me a long time ago that they saw a photo of her in the makeup for the scene, it's not one I've ever seen myself though.

Interesting, so was she fully made up or was it just the arm?? SOMEONE was definitely under the sheets but Im sure it wasn't Steve Bisley, looked way too thin...

"dont write off the goose untill you see the box going in the hole".
I never saw the box go into the hole...so if we can trust the Goose himself, he is probably still out there.

It's presumed he dies but not explicitly stated. In that run down world, the treatment wouldn't really be there to assist him though, he would more than likely succumb to shock or infection. Whoever is under the sheet looks a lot thinner so its implying massive tissue loss. The makeup is really poor on the arm mind, I mean its just an arm that's been blackened up more or less, no real skin damage. I'd still like to know who is (clearly seen) under that sheet??

What's really crazy is that rumour that Humungus was going to have been Jim Goose? Even if he had survived somehow, they would have been physically way different. One man with no skin and another with a Mr Universe body??!!! I'm presuming this was actually considered (if indeed true) before the Humungus was cast or even designed that way?? Just couldn't have possibly worked?!

I'd have to dig through my documents but I'm pretty freaking certain that Miller said that in some article in the early 80's, I'll get back to you on that right after I come back from yet another Fury Road screening :D
