Here's the super-short Associated Press news blurb about us. Gets the most important part wrong, of course. When did we "surround" the tanker?

Apr 18, 7:18 AM EDT

'Mad Max' Fans Arrested for Recreation

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Eleven "Mad Max" fans armed with fake machine guns were arrested after they surrounded a tanker truck while making their way to a movie marathon in a theatrical convoy.

As the group headed to San Antonio on Saturday, police received several calls from drivers who reported a "militia" surrounding a tanker truck.

Police charged nine people with obstruction of a highway and two others with possession of prohibited knives in addition to the obstruction charge.

One of the organizers, Chris Fenner, said the arrests were unfair. He said he didn't know why anyone would have confused the costumed crew recreating a scene from "Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior" - set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland - with a real threat.

"I honestly don't know how that could be, because 'Road Warrior' was so over the top," he said.

The movie marathon was canceled after the arrests.

Militia! LoL LOL... What Machine guns this is just hilarious in a painful wasting my time kind of way... LOL.... Well if you enter Mad Max in any search engine now we are the first hits (and there are a lot of them)... I've now been interviewed by Canada, Houston, Nevada (Pahrump radio I think), Two local news stations and the paper (they all think it's ridiculous too).. Gary from South St. Mary's Rod & Custom (very cool guy and a great shop by the way) was also interviewed by a local radio station....

What do you think I could get for my WEZ autographed KZ now that it has been on the news, signed by WEZ? LOL wait it's not that funny, I may end up needing to in order to settle the court cost.........

Thanks so much for all of your support guys I will continue to update as I can...All of the ROADWAR Dozen really appreciate the support and comments...

Sorry I had to skeddadle guys. One of my friends in my Army unit lost his left leg at the mid thigh and part of his right leg in an accident Sat. night. So I had to get back early Sunday and check on him...

Wow. What an event. I somehow feel left out since I didn't get arrested. I escaped the 'intense' police dragnet by getting a soda and sitting on the sidewalk. I was really surprised at some of the charges. At first, the cops were gonna take everyone involved into custody without even making sure there was probable cause or chargeable offenses. Just being there was reason enough to be arrested. For many of the people that were taken in, there was no proof of anything other than they were in the group of vehicles. There was no proof of "obstructing traffic" or breaking any other laws. It was simple guilt by association, and I hope the charges get dismissed as they should. Hell, Chris came up AFTER the convoy had arrived and the cops had swarmed. There was no proof that he was anything other than an interested onlooker.

Threatening to tow the vehicles was another surprise. I'm glad that wasn't followed through with. Impounding an Interceptor is unacceptable. The JGS might not have survived the tow hooks.

This incident keeps growing day by day. I've heard mention of it even on post, and some guys in my unit who were unaware that I had gone to San Antonio came up to me with outlandish stories about a wild Mad Max terrorist incident involving machine guns and vehicular combat. Chris should be getting that call from Letterman any time now...

Well, I guess it's another chapter in the Mad Max fanbase saga. Just a bunch of glory roaders, I guess...

Stay safe,

Mitch

You are correct, sir. It is the very same Interceptor created by Scott Smith for Back 2 The Max. It arrived the Monday before the event, and I must say that Scott is a vehicular artiste. The level of detail he went to in creating that BoB is unbelievable. I believe some modifications were made after it left Scott's hands, such as the addition of modern air conditioning, new carb, intake, rear end gearing, etc. One thing that was untouched was the transmission, I think. It had an issue on the way home, 65 miles out of Dallas. A little flatbed tow and it's at its new home again, where it will receive a brand new 5 speed tranny and bell housing to replace the one that is currently scattered all over I35, along with a lot of skin from my left palm which was holding the shift lever when it let go. No fault of Scott's, it was built as a film vehicle, not a long distance machine. It survived all that time filming Back 2 The Max, the burnouts, and all that. So some bits are getting refreshed and replaced. And, thanks to the past weekend, it now carries the autographs of not only Dennis Williams the truckie who drove it throughout MMII and did the truck driving and stunts, the autograph of Emil Minty (The Feral Kid), but also Vernon Wells who couldn't have been nicer and a better sport.

I feel honored beyond measure to have Last V8 II in the MFP garage and to be its current custodian. It's one sweet ride, and you'd be amazed at how very comfortable it was to drive over 600 miles.
