The Sierra was probably made in Germany, or it was Ziebarted or Waxoyled (I swear by it!) when new.

I saw a 1982 Escort Ghia the other day which was perfect, apart from a rust bubble on the driver's door. The owner of it appreciated my kind commnets about his old car.

Q: Did the 1970s Australian Fords come with any kind of factory corrosion protection?

Don't know about the treatment oz fords would've had, i presume there would have been something, but looking at mine, very minimal, on saying that due to the climate it came from it's still absolutely solid underside with no corrosion at all.

I've had a 1975 celica for 15 years, that has had a treatment similar to zeibart, called endrust, all the chassis and cavities had been treated, there's not one sign of any rust anywhere on these areas, the doors and boot lid are as good as the day it left the factory.

Many years ago, we had a zeibart branch in bradford, which eventually closed, the reason was the amount of "better built" cars being produced..........................if only that would've been the case at ford uk.

All 1975 cars, including Celicas would have benefitted from a good dose of rustproofer...

The annoying thing is that car makers had rustproofing agents like Ziebart and Endrust available to them from the end of the 1940s, but they didn't use them.

They now have realised that many people resent buying a new car every few years or so due to rust, so at last the cars have decent rustproofing. The cars' technology is so complicated nowadays that you can't fix the mechanics, however.

I think Ziebart still operates in the UK. Where I don't know. I have used 'Waxoyl' on my cars since 1995, and it really does work!Image

Remember the slogan 'Ford Gives You More?'

More rust? :D

I hope the weather stays fine for the show! If the Black on Black gets attention form people in the street, just think what the 'Big Bopper' will do to people. Their heads will probably explode...!

That's the main reason why I don't own them any more. That and the fact that in my opinion the modern Fords have no character or charm beyond their radical looksImage

Ford Focus? I'd rather drive a Volvo 245! (I did and rather enjoyed it)

one thing my dad found with the 4 or 5 FALCONS he owned, were those damn DOOR HANDLES, if they're not buggered when you buy them, they will be, by the time you're done with them.
