Car #17

Like the name says...

Car #17

it's still out there...still being billed as an original movie car...

I had an opportunity to see the infamous "CAR #17" recently. It is still here in Colorado, looking as rough as ever.
It was being advertised on the radio that a local liquor store had Mad Max memoribillia on display...needless to say I was intrigued, and suspected that
"CAR #17" might be their "memoribillia." I was right. Other than in pics (like the one fresh out of it's shipping container, lol) I had never seen the car, so it was off to the LQ.

A friend and I were viewing the car, parked inside the store, and I was giving a "History of the Interceptor" lesson. Surprisingly, the guy had an original Scott Injection system for the car, but it was in the back seat. Only the hat was on the car.( still on a gutted blower case and a couple of old Hollys)
As I was pointing out the details, what (little) was correct, an what was obviously, clearly, WRONG on the car to my friend.....I was drawing a crowd.

Wellllll..... A well dressed man approached and asked "So you are saying this is not an actual car from the movie?"
"OH, Absolutely!" I said with a smile.
He said he was the store owner, and asked me to kindly stop talking or leave his store immediately! Ha ha ha ha.
He thought : uh-oh, I've got to shut this guy up!
I just smiled said, "sure it's your store" and we left.

Still nice to see another Falcon in the flesh, though. I got some pics, but they are on my phone still. I'll need to upload them.

Well, it's good you tried to keep him honest, even if he was just a jerk about it.

While it might not hurt anyone to say it's genuine now while it sits in public display, but that moniker probably won't disappear when the car is put up for sale.

Oh yeah, definitely upload those pics!

Man, the balls to claim that it's an original movie car... Maybe the guy is reving up for the new Mad Max, then he'll claim it's car #18 from Fury Road. Why not?

Workin on the pics..phone isn't a smart phone, so its overly complicated.
But this guy and his car aren't new. They were around and claiming legit status well over a decade ago.
Plenty of pics here on the FAQ. http://www.madmaxmovies.com/mad-max-fan ... index.html
And in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9231&p=87797&hilit=colorado#p87797
Other than not having the tape over the fuel door, It's pretty much unchanged. Still using the same placards.
Just funny to see he's still schlepping the same story around. He obviously fooled the store owner.

Wow after some 10yrs or more the owner of this car is still at it!
If you repeat a lie often enough it becomes the truth!

Glad you managed to least inform a few people it wasn't the real thing.

Its pretty sad and disgusting this continues but, sooo many people claiming bullshit and have been caught out over the years
We are 100% snafu....

Well, it doesn't become truth here!
This guy has been confronted many times. He doesn't care.
It was, frankly, great fun publicly tearing the car apart. The store owner was clearly fooled as he had a rather stricken look on his face while asking me to stop.
I never spoke to Rich Barnes (the car owner) just patrons of the store, and then, the store owner. The customers were merely interested, and the owner worried.
And I got to see another Aussie Falcon, a wicked cool car no matter what. :)

Here are the pics. Sorry about the quality, using a highly mediocre basic phone's camera.

Aw man, you didn't catch the butchered front bumper, that's the best part:)
Did he at least try to cover it up this time or does it still have that DIY bolted on section in there?
