Road Warrior Event Flier Competition

Postby Karol » Tue May 05, 2009 11:06 pm

Hi guys,
As some of you may have noted, some of us were talking about getting some of you guys on the forum to help create a nice eye-catching 4x6 advertising card for the Road Warrior Event Weekend. We're looking for a sexier alternative to the flier we currently have.
We want something image-intensive and minimal on the text.
Here's an example of what we may want to write:

Road Warrior Weekend Event
Mad Max style mayhem in the SoCal desert
Just 1.5 hours from L.A.
November 20-22 2009
www.myspace.com/roadwarriorevent
Music. Camping. Leather. Engines. Apocalypse.

You guys are free to use pics from www.RoadwarUSA.com or my pics on www.MadMaxCostumes.com
I'll be checking in to see what you guys can come up with. Thanks!

I have a ton of 'sexy' Mad Max type pictures that anyone can use. Some of them are in this thread in Costumes and Props:
Road Warrior's DragonCon 2008 Report

(Sorry I don't know how to link to a thread)

I have lots more. I'll see if I can post some of them. If anyone wants more, please just let me know.

And by "sexy" I didn't necessarily mean literally sexy as in half-naked women. Our current flier is black and white and photocopied. Something that is pleasing to the eye (colored, crisp photos, nice design work, etc) is what I meant. Not that literal sexiness would be discouraged.

Wow! Thanks Morrisminor! Those look fantastic! I love the road sign one and love the logo on the first!
I'll have to show these to Scarlett. She'll probably love them so much she will want to do a big run of them!

Dude, those are awesome. I really like the MFP color scheme. You should do something creative like that, you know, professionally. :D

As a former copywriter, I'd like to make one minor comment, Scarlett and Karol—and maybe it's too late—but does the title have to include "event"? It's like "The Toyota Summer Sales Event," when what it really is is a weekend (and the event part is implied). I mean, it's not "The Man-Burning Event," for example. Therefore, I propose...

THE ROAD WARRIOR WEEKEND

Or maybe even POST-APOCALYPSE NOW! ;)

Just a thought.

Ya, I threw out the idea of having the name changed before. The name is generic so that there is no question what the event is all about. I think at this point, we should just stick to what people have gotten used to. The exact phrasing isn't a big deal. I reckon it's like band names - once you get used to the band name, all you really think of is the band, not the name. We could name this event "Cake" and people would eventually associate the event with the name. I like to think that the name is kinda cool like "Airborne Toxic Event." But that's just my opinion.
