Extra piece of info about 'Fury Road'

I was trawling through the online version of 'Variety' just now and I spotted this article dated 21 December '03:

Breaking news, broken news

Why the big stories of 2003 never happened!

Hollywood is all about myths and myth-making. Hence, while other newspapers habitually review the main news events they reported during the course of the year, Variety prefers to remind its readers of those stories that were reported -- but never happened.

Herewith, and in no particular order, are some of the stories that didn't materialize in 2003:

Headline: "Threat of war stalling 'Max,' " (Daily Variety, Feb. 28)

Story: Concerned about shooting in Africa with the U.S. poised to invade Iraq, 20th Century Fox postponed from spring to fall the start date on "Mad Max: Fury Road" with Mel Gibson and director George Miller. Fox brass were disappointed, having set "Max" as a summer 2004 tentpole. Studio was adamant the film would return to Namibia by the fall.

What happened: The fear of Max-ing out at $160 million caused both Gibson and Fox to shelve the film, with an agreement to re-explore it eventually.

So...if this is true, maybe we will see the picture some day -- I'll *always* keep my fingers crossed!

I'll always hold out hope for the film as well, but how much "re-exploring" will actually happen is up in the air.

Lets just hope Miller gets Gibson so the movie end up getting made, i think if Miller grabs Gibson than Fox will give the go ahead.

Mel Gibson is signed for Fury Road. Technically Miller doesn't have to do anything. The only thing holding this film up and I hate to say it because Mel is my absolute favorite actor, but it's Mel who's holding this thing up. If he were done with The Passion of the Christ and ready to make MM4, they'd be filming it right now.

The recent reports we hear is that he doesn't want to act anymore and just direct, which would suck because he's the coolest actor ever. I even had a mini Lethal Weapon marathon last night and I would love for him to make another one, but I want Fury Road more than anything in this world as far as movies go and right now nothing is going on with it.

Well lets just wait a little more for the interviews about passion, im sure we'll learn more about this project, also i think if it was really dead then we would already knew, but since that didnt really happened i think that there's still a chance for the movie to happen. also right now the most weird thing i found out about the whole thing was the Gibson supposed comments about the Miller script, Miller had worked on the damn script for 3 or 4 years according to many articles on the internet and Gibson said it was trite???i have a hard time to believe this, not about Gibson saying it or not, but about the script actually being ordinary........

Yeah, Gibson's comments on the script struck me as very strange. I think in order for Mel to agree to a film, the script has to be really great and I believe it was a 20th Century Fox executive who said the script was "very creative."

I think the film, if made, has the potential to be really extraordinary.

And I agree...hopefully during interviews for The Passion, people are smart enough to ask about Fury Road.

If MM 4 will be set in africa it'll suck. It's gonna be even worse than beyond thunderdome. MM 1 and 2 were low budget movies that were 100 times better than any other major produciton i've ever seen. It seems they now wanna translate MM into some big hollywood movie without the cool muscle cars that immortailzed the first two mvies and that'll be a huge mistake. as much as i'd hate for mel gibson not to be in this film, I'd rather see your own MM4 as discussed elsewhere on this forum![/font]

glad u agree, skip! i'm belgian myself, but everytime i watchmad max 1 and 2 i am amazed by the beautiful australian landscape. i love hollywood movies, but mad max should be set in australia and the main characters should be souped up muscle cars, not dune buggies! the shots of max chasing the bikers at the end of the first movie under a menacing sky in the australain outback are breathtaking... that's wat we wanna see, not moroccan desert shots....

anyway, the reason i am posting this reply: is there anyone that could email me or create some desktop wallapers of mad max driving his interceptor? preferably one of that shot when he is waiting for the bikers after they have robbed the tanker. or one of max speeding away in the desert in mad max 2. or just any cool shots of replica pursuit specials!

bye for now!
