Well then, that's TWO references to a Falcon being purchased/built for MM4.

(I'm leaning towards the flashback theory on that, myself)

An as for exporting Falcons to the states..

I know for a FACT that a lot of classic American Iron has made it's way down under.

Including a '70 Hemi Challenger from Omaha.

(Beatiful machine, that one. Immaculate resto on a nearly perfect stored car)

flashback would be cool, but mel is old now. i guess theres always makeup. it would be so cool to see the interceptor back in action and maybe even in top shape. mmmmm. also, ive been thinking what if they made it post MM3 but society was restored and growing healthily, possibly to a great leader or something. maybe that way we could see cars in good shape. but then what if they make it so that technology has been advanced to about where it is now and they would have modern day fords and holdens, etc. i dont think i would want this to be the case and i doubt they could make that very believable, but its an idea. well, any way they make it, im sure it'll be good.

It's funny how we keep coming back to the same things. A while back we were discussing postapocalyptic technology and I brought up Cuba. Cuba is filled with American 40's-50's cars in a surprisingly good state of repair. Not necessarily original, but very functional. Due to the necessity of keeping the only cars they have running, people have come up with ingenious ways to fix them, outside of the normal parts sources, etc. Apply this mentality to an Australia where you have to keep whatever was produced before the big war running, and you'd expect to see Falcons, Holdens, Chargers, etc. Kinda like a time capsule. Hence the buying of old Aussie metal for this movie.

hmm thats quite an interesting idea. that would be friggin awesome if they did that. george should visit these forums! sometimes i wonder what MM1 wouldve been like if he had the slightly bigger budget he wanted so that he didnt have to cut some of the stunts and chases out.

A good rationale for everyone that wants to maintain the 70's feel to the vehicles is that if there was a nuclear war, everything with electronics would be fried. Computerized cars would just be dead. the only veicles that would work are the ones that still have the old points type systems.

Like Opel GT's? Or Manta's? Didn't you have a hard time with that elec. choke on the Weber carb?

As Jeff Spicoli said in 'Fast Times At Ridgemont High',

"Hey, I know that dude!"

Anyway, yep, the EMP would fry electronics if it was close enough. I think the real point is to stay in the alternate reality of the Mad Max universe. 'A Few Years From Now...' would have been in the early-mid '80's. Hence, no later model Falcons, Holden Commodores, or many , many Japanese imports. Honda never got a foothold in the US market. No neon kits or bookshelf spoilers. No Knight Rider... NO MINIVANS!

Sniff... Now I'm nostalgic for the what-could-have-been.

So to be 'period correct', nothing from 1985 on up, let's say.

Sorry Detritus, but the Points style distributors would get the same treatment as the computers.

An electric circuit is an electric circuit.

VACUUM TUBES, however, are immune to ElectroMagnetic Pulse, but that sort of technology doesn't lend itself well to the conditions even a highway only car would face.

(Warning! Controversial opinion! Warning!)Image

You've all heard it before, but I'll say it again..

I dissagree with the popular mythos of the MM Timeline.

MM1 takes place approximately 1983-1984

"The Great Oil War Apocalypse" would likely have been in 1984

MM2/RW takes place 1986-1987

MM3BT takes place 2000

MM4FR should take place 2004.

Being convinced of this, I'll say that the vehicles should be based on PRE 1984 models.

In the Alternate timeline I wrote, the Black on Black is actually a modified Factory Prototype introduced by Ford Australia to keep in business during the troubled times..

The economy being what it was, they simply stayed with the existing body style of the XA, XB & XC Falcons with some minor differences.

(The DOHC V-8 & Monza nose, primarily)

I cannot see any way, if the movie follows T-Dome, to have any recognizable car bodies left...

I understood that the EMP affects transistor type electronics, not an 'electric circuit'. If this is incorrect, please explain why. How would the EMP damage a simple coil/mechanical points ingition system? Mind you, examining the engine compartment of Max's car at the beginning of MM1 may reveal electronic ignition components in use. The 70's was the time when the manufacturers were switching over to HEI (Chevy) and Ford's version (forget the name, Duraspark?) and many hot-rods/performance cars were running such set-ups. So it would not be a surprise to find it in his car, a police interceptor. That information may or may not have any significance in defining the specifics of events in the Mad Max universe.

There is seemingly contradictory information as to when the 'nuclear exchange' took place. If EMP affects transistorised components, then the existence of police radios, medical equipment, and if Max's car has any electronic ignition components, would indicate the first movie was "Pre-Blam" (nice little reference to a book called "The Lost Traveler", post-apocalyptic biker/indian story, written in the 70's). But, Nightriders comment about "It's all gone! There'll be nothing left!" and Max wandering out into the"wasteland" (not just a euphemism for the outback, note the 'skull and crossbones' warning sign as he does so, perhaps looking to die?)) after taking out the gang, would imply that it had happened. Unless the 'wasteland' was chemically or biologically contaminated land.

So, if the war had already happened and there is equipment that should not have been working because of it, then that would mean they were able to produce new electronics. Maybe not on a great scale, but enough to keep the important stuff going. This would imply a society that cannot pull itself out of a steady decline. Never quite enough to turn the situation around. The television news report is a good case for this. If the bomb had been used on Australia, I doubt you would have a working television, much less a working tv studio to produce a news broadcast. You might be able to do it from a shielded military installation, but to whom would you broadcast? Either the bomb had not been used or the time frame is long enough to allow a stabilisation of society to be able to produce electronic parts and for there to be enough tv's to make a news broadcast a viable thing.
