There were 2 modern vehicles talked about recently on this forum , the Humvee and the Nissan Skyline both built in 1989 , now with the Tatra as part of the " official canon " there is another 1989 vintage vehicle
My point was as there are no vehicles in the movie built after 1989 ( that we know of ) there may have been a cut off point for the age of vehicles to be used , just an observation :ugeek:

Ah, thanks for clarifying. Was '89 the last year they built that Tatra, or the first year it was in production, or what?

Hmmm, Wikipedia seems to be saying the T815 went into production earlier than 1989. Wikipedia says 1983 was the first year:

I got the prelude book today. It gives a nice image on how they constructed the War Rig and where they got the parts.
The description Artemis Flow gave earlier (see previous page) is just spot on without giving to much away. You really have to see and read it yourselves to really get the feeling of this short story.
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

I bought the book just so I could read the story of the War Rig. There were numerous elements that jumped right out at me. For one thing, we have a confirmed nuclear strike on Australian soil. Previous to this, I always felt that was more implied than stated outright. One could have just as easily imagined all the radiation drifting to Australia from other parts of the globe, like in the book, "On the Beach."

Another thing I noticed was the prevalence of modern automobiles. The big rig tanker that contained the smuggling compartment appeared to be pulled by a modern, aerodynamic-looking truck, and the donor vehicle that provided the War Rig's twin engines appeared to be a late model Dodge Challenger. And there were other modern-looking cars in the story.

One question: Like the War Rig, the big rig was depicted as being a lefthand drive vehicle. Are there LHD trucks in real-world Australia? If so, why?

The only left hand drive vehicles in Australia are import cars like muscle cars and old classics that cannot be easily or cheaply converted to right hand drive , they are legal to drive on our roads but must display a sign in some states ( Left Hand Drive Vehicle ) , there would be no commercial trucks operating in left hand drive , this is why the comic should not be regarded as " canon " there are just too many holes in the story>

Australia would certainly be a nuclear target , in the cold war all our major coastal cities were on the hit list , the comic describes the inland target as an army base , we have an American installation used for spying here called Pine Gap which is located in the middle of nowhere and no doubt a few other things we dont know of :|
