In a survival situation, cordage is more than useful, it's a necessity.
From Shelter building, to firemaking to tourniquets to just tying things together.e

Parachute cord is pretty handy stuff for all of these uses and more..
Gut the cord and you have 7 strands of finer cord that can be used for fishing line, sewing, sutures, etc.. while leaving the outer sheath for, well, anything cord can do.

Paracord bracelets are a handy way to carry lengths of paracord.
Just unravel the thing and you have 8-10 foot of cord, and yes, it can be retied many, many times.

Most of the ones I make tend to be about nine feet of cord, though, personally, I prefer the "Slim Ripcord" style bracelet over Hardy/Max's "Cobra" knot bracelet.
(The Slim Ripcord and "Sinnet" Ripcord bracelets I habitually wear are both quick deploy designs that can be untied in a very short time, rather than having to untie two dozen complicated & tight knots. It literally takes me longer to take the Slim off than it does to untie it.)

A couple of good instructiional videos - Just sharing, I have no connection to any of these makers.

The "Cobra" Knot (Ooh, found one very, VERY topical! lol) :D

The Cobra WITH Buckle (You can get buckles with ferro rod sparkers for emergency fire starting)

The Slim Ripcord (I've got bracelets, hatbands and a strap for a drybox car emergency kit... All kinds of uses)

And the Sinnet (I like the end product, but 'm just learning it and this bugger's a PAIN in the @$$ to tie!!!)

It's interesting to note that in the new Amazon TV series, "Bosch," actor Titus Welliver wears a similar bracelet, and it was something that the actor similarly brought to the role, an item that was not in the script or called for in any wardrobe notes.
